The idea

Information without another screen.

SimpleClock is a connected domestic object built around an ESP8266 and a 5 × 6 matrix of addressable LEDs. Rather than reproduce a conventional clock face, it uses a deliberately limited visual language to communicate the hour and current weather.

The result is ambient rather than demanding: information becomes part of the object, visible at a glance without opening an app.

The system

Data → language → light

A small object that turns data into light.

The clock retrieves live data, interprets it through a compact set of states, and maps each state to colour, position, and movement across the LED matrix.

The interface

Five by six.
Nothing extra.

The constraint is the character. Thirty LEDs are enough to form a recognisable language while keeping the object quiet, playful, and intentionally unlike a miniature display.
